Bearathon: The Toughest Half in Texas

Bearathon

The Bearathon, happening on Saturday, is known as “The Toughest Half in Texas” for a reason. This challenging half marathon covers 13.35 miles with 489 feet of elevation gain, taking runners through the hills of Cameron Park and some of Waco’s most scenic spots. The event attracts around 2,000 runners from across Texas and beyond, raising thousands of dollars for student scholarships. For those looking for a shorter option, the Sic 'Em 6K offers a scenic route through Baylor University’s campus, starting and ending at the same location as the Bearathon. More info.

Cameron Park’s Top-Rated Trail
After cheering on Bearathon runners, hit Cameron Park’s top-rated trail—boasting over 1,000 AllTrails reviews! The River Trail, Highlander, Sidewinder, and California 56 Loop (5.9 miles) is a Waco gem, blending scenic river views, shaded paths, and a solid workout for hikers, runners, or bikers. Local trail lover, Jake Thompson, calls it “Waco’s backyard paradise—I’ve been running here since high school!” Whether you’re strolling or sprinting, this trail shows off why we love our city’s natural beauty. Share your trail pics with @WacoBuzz—we’d love to see your adventure!
