WACO BUZZWORTHY NEWS

  • 🥽Students Get To Work This summer, about 30 Waco-area high school students participated in the Triple Win Waco program, where they learned welding skills to create two framed steel structures for future vendor markets. These structures will provide entrepreneurial and creative students with spaces to sell their products near Magnolia Market at the Silos. The program saw record participation from four local school districts and offered students real industrial worksite experience at Sturdisteel in Hewitt. Students not only honed their welding skills but also gained valuable experience in a professional setting, including meeting job standards and working with supervisors. The program benefits students, schools, and businesses, with past projects including a pedal car, a refurbished food truck, and a mobile ax-throwing cage.

  • 🧗 Basin Climbing and Fitness in Hewitt had their soft opening yesterday! It is an indoor rock climbing gym focused on whole-person wellness and community connection. The Wacoan-led team offers various programs, training, and events for all levels of climbers, from beginners to elite athletes. They are open the rest of this week building up to the grand opening. Follow their Facebook page for more updates!

  • 🍕🎥 “You’re Killing Me Smalls”: Tonight at 6 PM Red Herring's vacation will kick off with country tunes from Holly Tucker on the Song Bird stage followed by our feature film - fan favorite flick, The Sandlot. Enjoy this one-time opportunity to take in a classic movie while you indulge in an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet with fresh popcorn, Nightlight Donuts, and Heritage Ice Cream surrounded by friends and family. Bring your blankets & camp chairs for the ultimate outdoor movie-watching experience! Grab Tickets here.

  • 🎭 Velvet Elvis & Love Wins Author Turned Playwright: Rob Bell’s What’s a Knucka Play debut’s at MCC Black Box Theatre. It is the surreal, absurdist story of four climbers from four different nations who arrive from four different directions at the top of The Banashak at the EXACT SAME TIME.

The climbers stand there on the peak, staring each other down, in shock, which quickly turns to denial, rage, scheming, arguments about where exactly the peak even is, plots, and plans to claim the achievement for themselves alone. The play debuts on August 4 at 7 PM. Grab Tickets here.
