Good morning, Waco. This is the Waco Buzz, the newsletter equivalent of this cool weather in early September - refreshing and delightful.

Quick Update:
Surprise! You maybe wondering why you are getting this email today. Over the past ten years, I’ve seen Waco come alive through local events, hidden gems, and everything in between. And honestly? I’ve always known Waco has so much to offer.

But I kept hearing the same thing: “Waco is boring.”

A few months ago, I decided to change that narrative. I launched this newsletter to prove that Waco is anything but boring. The support has been incredible, and I’m excited to keep the momentum going.

Starting this week, The Waco Buzz will hit your inbox every Tuesday and Friday. Expect the same great content—events, local highlights, and more.

Thank you for being part of the Buzz! Here’s to celebrating all the great things Waco has to offer.

Many other tours can be found on the app including Heart O’Texas Foodways, Waco Tornado 1953, and more.

🌳🌳The Green Communities Conference is coming to the Waco Convention Center today and tomorrow. Hosted by the Waco Sustainability Network, this event invites the public to explore the future of sustainability and conservation. Join hundreds of leaders from across Texas as they share insights through presentations, exhibitors, and workshops focused on education, health, and financial security. General admission is $25.

🔖David Brooks, bestselling author and New York Times columnist, will speak on civil discourse tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Waco Hall as part of Baylor’s Fall 2024 Conversation Series. HOT Dog Park Closes 🐶🐶

Waco’s H.O.T. Dog Park is closed permanently after the landowner sold the property effective today. Opened in 2011 by local veterinarian Dr. LuAnn Ervin, the park became Waco’s largest off-leash spot for dogs. Despite community efforts to maintain it, funding issues persisted. The park’s board was unaware of the sale and expressed sadness over the sudden closure, urging the city to open a new dog park. In the interim, if you are looking for a place to take Fido check out Paw Community Dog Park at 515 New Dallas Hwy.
