Good morning, Waco. This is the Waco Buzz. A special welcome to the 62 new subscribers who jumped in with the Buzz this past week.
👏 Happy Monday!
🔥 Weather: Hot and sunny, but compared to last week it should feel like a cool front. High of 95° today, but cooler air is on the horizon with temps in the 80’s coming this weekend!

Let’s make it a great start to the week.

BUZZWORTHY NEWS

🎒The Waco ISD trustees have approved a $163 million budget for the 2024-25 school year, prioritizing investments in teachers and student programs. With a small tax increase, local homeowners will help fund a modest pay raise for educators and enhanced health insurance benefits. This budget also ensures ongoing support for important local educational programs, strengthening the community’s commitment to quality education and services.

❄️Feel Good Waco: Lowe’s Waco manager and Atlantik Contractors teamed up to provide an AC unit to an elderly man suffering in extreme heat. Despite not knowing the man's name, they split the $500 cost to ensure he stayed cool during a week of 116-degree weather. This act of kindness highlights the supportive community spirit in Waco.

Baylor Football is eyeing a comeback in 2024 after two rough seasons, with hopes pinned on a revamped offense led by new quarterback Dequan Finn and a defense looking to improve. Head coach Dave Aranda, known for his strategic approach, aims to make the Bears more competitive in a challenging Big 12 conference. With key matchups against Utah and Air Force, success will hinge on a more experienced offensive line and fresh talent stepping up. Fans can expect a more exciting season, with the team projected to win around 5 games and potentially make it to a bowl game.

Don’t forget the first game of the season is August 31. It’s a home game against Tarleton State at 6 PM and you can catch it on ESPN+. Tickets start at $15 for lawn seating on the berm, and increase to $25 for dedicated seats. Get tickets here.
